Cabaret (with) Voltaire
May. 12th, 2003 10:31 pmWell. The Voltaire concert was certainly entertaining. I'm just kinda embarrassed about the louts who heckled him on stage and the inconsiderate people in attendance who talked constantly and loudly while he was performing. They obviously didn't see the significance of his first concert here in Canada as well as being the first Projekt artist to come up to Vancouver. I hope this doesn't dissuade him from coming back or to see Vancouver as a undesireable city to play in. I guess not a lot of people in Vancouver are aware of Voltaire. I thought more people would show up but it was a fairly modest number of people in attendance.
Although we didn't see him in the infamous giant bunny suit from his earlier concert (gotta play with the minds of those glum goths!), we did get to see Voltaire in a suit and tie... sharp! I was suprised to see him perform on stage alone with just an acoustic guitar. I was expecting a band to accompany him. Voltaire was quite comfortable on stage and told jokes between songs. That guy should do stand-up because his delivery was great. Nesha also thought he was quite good looking. And apparently, so did Marion. I had to calm her down when she yelled for Voltaire to "take it all off".
I was impressed to see Voltaire spend time before and after the concert to meet fans and sign their CD's for them. He could have left right away after his performance but he stayed. Nesha and I got a couple of CD's signed by him as well. He was very friendly and charming. Shelly got some signed too and even got a photo of herself being carried in his arms. I had never seen Shelly so giddy and giggly before. It was cute!
I finally got to introduce Lorelei to Nesha. I haven't seen her in ages. I also found out how serious
kitsune_13's hip problem was. You poor thing!(I do remember your cane from a few years ago. I thought it was just a fashion accessory. I didn't know it was actually functional!)
Oh yah, Something About Reptiles was the opening band. I remember seeing them 2 years ago in the Pink Show cabaret. Great gypsy inspired cabaret music. It was good but some of the songs were difficult to differentiate from each other. The ones that had more individuality to them were the best. Burcu (from the Burcu's Angels clothing store) was much like how I remembered her when she performed the last time I saw her. Nesha thinks that she was either high and/or drunk. I think that was probably just her free-spirited personality. And she probably had quite a few glasses of wine to help as well.
Nesha and I took the morning off to sleep in together but here I am again. Back to work. Sigh.
