While in Toronto, a group of friends came by on my day off and grabbed me for a trip to the abandoned paper mill in Georgetown. I had just finished an all night 14 hour shift and had been awake for over 24 hours by the time we got there. In addition to this, I had to take a motion sickness pill to counter the effects of being a car passenger for the long ride. My head felt like it was encased in sand. :P

When we reached the mill, we slipped through a hole in the fence to begin our exploration. It was a fascinating visit!

Things related to pirates bring out the romance in some people... ;)

A port-to-port tall ship race in Toronto had a number of tall ships arrive to the waterfront. Canada Day happened to coincide with this event so there were quite a few ships to admire.

I was working or away during the majority of the chaos in Downtown Toronto. These photographs were all taken when all the delegates were leaving. I heard that there were still a number of protesters marching through the streets though.

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen and his sister, Jody Patton, commisioned Frank Gehry to design this homage to Jimi Hendrix and to house the interactive music museum (EMP). Gehry designed the structure to accommodate Allen's demands that the complex be gritty, industrially informal, and true to what he calls the "swoopy" spirit of rock.

The building is 13,006 sq metres (140,000 sq ft) and 26 metres (85ft) high. Using a variety of processes, the surfaces, some made of aluminum, others of stainless steel, were given color that had symbolic meaning: light blue represented Fender guitars, gold Les Paul guitars, red for others, the purple of the Sky Dome referred to Hendrix’s song “Purple Haze,” and silver is meant to remind us of strings and other guitar accessories.

The Luxembourg Gardens has plenty of green metal chairs available for reading and relaxing. You can simply get hold of one of the many chairs and take it to the exact spot where you want to sit.

The Eiffel Tower is built on the Champ de Mars beside the Seine River. This is the view from across the Seine at The Trocadéro.

The Eiffel Tower's likeness had long since been part of the public domain, when in 2003, it was abruptly repossessed by the city of Paris. That's the year that the SNTE, the company charged with maintaining the tower, adorned it with a distinctive lighting display, copyrighted the design, and reclaimed the nighttime image and likeness of the most popular monument on earth. In short, they changed the actual likeness of the tower and then copyrighted that.

As a result, it's no longer legal to publish current photographs of the Eiffel Tower at night without permission. Technically, this applies even to amateurs. Stéphane Dieu, the Director of Documentation for SNTE, reassured that SNTE wasn't interested in prohibiting the publication of amateur photography on personal Web sites. "It is really just a way to manage commercial use of the image, so that it isn't used in ways we don't approve," said Mr. Dieu.

So while publishing nighttime photos of the Eiffel Tower may now be illegal, it isn't all bad news for tourists. SNTE profits go back to the city of Paris, making it, hopefully, an even nicer place to visit.

At first, I didn't think that the photos that I got from Amsterdam were really that good or interesting. But after having gone through them, I changed my mind. If I were to go to these places now with my camera, I probably would have photographed more people.

I saw this gigantic statue of Freddie Mercury on a theatre building at Yonge Street. It was for We Will Rock You -The Musical. I took a photo of it during the evening when a spotlight was focused on Freddie's crotch but then I realised that you couldn't really tell that it was him because of the lighting. I made a point of going back and getting a photo during the day. You can make out his moustache and facial features a lot better in this new version!

I also came across Evil Dead - The Musical on a seperate evening. I had to go back and take a photo during the day when everything was not hidden in the dark. They have musicals for everything!!! I learned that this show is doing very well. More days have been added to the run. I really should have seen it when I was in Toronto but maybe I'll get lucky if it comes out here.

The Beaches is an upper class neighborhood in Toronto. The homes there are large and expensive. The nearby beach is comprised of Woodbine Beach (east), Kew Beach (middle) and Balmy Beach (west) all next to each other. These three beaches are the reason the area and beach is called "The Beaches". The beach is along Lake Ontario, which is a fresh water lake. It is so big that it looks just like the ocean.
