There's just a little over a week until Nesha moves to Burnaby. I've been trying to collect boxes for her whenever I can.
Last night, I dropped by the London Drugs store around the corner from where I live to pick up some soap. In the store, I noticed piles of boxes throughout the aisles... nice sturdy, large and clean ones. looking around, I found an employee stocking shelves and asked her if I could take some of the boxes for moving.
"No, sorry", she said. "We have to keep them for recycling. try the Safeway."
What?
I thanked her for her time and left the store with my purchase. As I passed by the alley behind the store, I saw the area where the boxes were being recycled. There were two large neat bundled of crushed and flattened boxes waiting on wooden pallets to be picked up. I don't get it. Why couldn't they give me the boxes to "recycle" by using for Nesha's move and for storing some of her things? Wasn't this a form of recycling as well? Did she think I was going to take the boxes and maliciously throw them away while giggling at my evil deed? I'm sure I would have put them to better use than to crush them up, tightly bundle them and then leave them to soak up the rain. Obtaining discarded boxes is better than having to purchase new ones.
I think I'll go check out the Safeway.
