On Saturday night, I was continuing my "sickness routine" by watching a movie under some warm blankets with a large box of Puffs Plus. The alternative was laying in bed with the humidifier and a large box of Puffs Plus.
Suddenly, the phone rang (as if phones can ring any other way... =P).
It was Nesha.
"MycatjustbrokehislegandIdon'thavemoneyforataxi.pleasecomeoverhererightnow!.*sobclick*"
Luckily I showered just an hour ago. I quickly threw on my clothes and got there as fast and safely as I could. Nesha's cat, Marlon, had fallen off her balcony 3 floors down. He hit a railing just before hitting the concrete ground. We took her cat to the Animal Emergency Hospital. The initial diagnosis was not good. Nesha bawled when she learned she might have to put down Marlin because of a possible broken leg, pelvis, spine and internal injuries. The cost of surgery was too expensive for her and it might not even help.
After some x-rays, the diagnosis appeared better. The veterinarian was puzzled though. There were no apparent broken bones and Marlin showed a little movement in her legs and tail yet he can't walk. She guessed that being overweight helped him survive the fall. There might be a fracture of one of the spinal bones though. However, the cost... although still steep... was much more affordable. We left Marlin there overnight before transferring him to a regular vet for further diagnosis and treatment.
Nesha slept over and it was difficult for us to sleep since we both had the flu and were worried about her cat.
The next morning, we moved Marlin to a vet. We left him there for observation. We were advised that if he is able to relieve himself, he'll likely survive. but he also has to regain the ability to walk again or he'll have to be put down. I'm hoping his legs are just recovering from the hard blow from the fall. I'm optimistic that he'll be okay. He's only 3 years old. Time to put those prayer beads I got from the Vatican to work.
