Welll.... Since you asked some time ago...

I was always fascinated by those Bollywood movies on television. Whenever I flipped through the channels, I would stop... transfixed by the bright colours, beautiful women and song and dance sequences I stumbled upon. I never knew what was happening since I usually came in the middle of the movie...

Sometime over a year ago, I heard of an Indian movie called Dhoom that also featured motorcycles (sort of like Torque. Nesha and I had always been similiarily fascinated by these Indian movies we always caught a glimpse of so I thought it would be a nice thing to try. I am always interested in other cultures anyhow. The movie was cheesy but it wasn’t bad at all. We loved the story, music and the eyecandy. It was a refreshing change from all the other Hollywood movies we saw.

The next Indian movie, Kal Ho Naa Ho I brought home was even better. It starred a very charismatic Shahrukh Khan and Nesha and I loved it. We thought it was just a romantic comedy with lots of fun song and dance scenes but it turned out to be a typical Bollywood masala movie... a movie with a mix of everything for everyone... drama, comedy and romance. We were taken by suprise as it was an intense tearjerker... we found ourselves bawling throughout the movie as more details were revealed. When the movie was over, we were both emotionally exhausted. But we were hooked from that point on. Kal Ho Naa Ho remains as one of my favourite movies and I never get tired of watching it.

Bollywood movies had everything for me and Nesha. We both enjoyed learning about Indian culture through them, the beautiful actors and actresses, gorgeous clothing, and the songs and dance scenes. We both enjoy the romance/drama/comedy mix in these films and it also appealed to my interest in foreign movies. These were movies that we both can easily agree to watch together.

When I am interested in something, it becomes almost like an obsession. I tend to learn all I can about that specific topic and Bollywood movies were not an exception. Through this process, I discovered many interesting things about certain aspects of Indian culture. This always led to other things. As I researched deeper and deeper into one thing, it usually led to another.

I believe the other Indian subject I find most interesting is their traditional dance styles. Dance is something I hav enjoyed in all it's forms in the past. As I learned more about classical Indian dance, I got to appreciate it a lot more. I have attended numerous Indian dance performances and have always come away enthralled with what I had experienced. Indian pop music has also become another favourite. Most of the time, I am listening to Hindi music in my car and my MP3 player only has Indian music in it now!

Although I have not watched as many Bollywood movies as I used to, I still watch them whenever I get the chance.
